Surprising Adversaries Pop Up on Our Favorite Soap Operas
People love to call soap operas predictable, but that isn’t always true. Case in point when characters you would think should get along suddenly turn on each other.
There were several of these instances over the last few months and Soap Hub thought we would share some of our favorites.
Mean Granny
Jennifer (Melissa Reeves) could and should have been a bit more understanding of poor Chad’s grief after his wife (and her daughter) Abigail “died” in a plane crash on Days of Our Lives.
But rather than offer to help him out with Thomas’s care, she took him to court to fight him for custody of the baby. We’re still waiting for that tasty tidbit to come out now that Abigail’s back from the dead.
Mirror Mirror on the Wall
You’d think Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) would remember that she wasn’t to-the-manor born either and would cut poor Sharon a bit of slack on The Young and the Restless.
She has been hard on the girl pretty much from the moment Nicholas laid eyes on her back in high school, and she hasn’t let up since.
Perhaps Sharon reminds her too much of herself in her early years – except for the big difference that Sharon was never a stripper or had to be rescued after joining a cult.
Déjà Vu
It’s hard to remember back to a time when General Hospital’s Bobbie (Jacklyn Zeman) wasn’t Carly’s biggest cheerleader.
She is the perfect supportive mom – well ever since Carly stopped conniving, trying to hurt Bobbie by stealing her husband. Sound familiar?
It does to Bobbie too — and that’s why she’s had Nelle’s number ever since the young upstart arrived on the Port Charles scene. Normally, Bobbie loves everything Carly, so it was a bit surprising when she took an instant dislike to her daughter’s protégé — but we’re so glad she has!
Butting-In Grandfather
We thought Steffy hung the moon – or at least it seemed that way to hear her grandfather Eric (John McCook) speak about her.
So, it was quite a shock to hear him berating her for living with her boyfriend Liam before her divorce from Wyatt (and Eric’s new beloved stepson) is finalized. Really Eric?
You used to adore Liam – and everything Steffy has ever done. Interesting to see Eric, who has shared women with his son (and may again), suddenly morph into the morality police.
