Peter Reckell’s Career Comes Full Circle in The Fantastiks
Try to remember that first time you saw Bo Brady in his leather and on his motorcycle in 1983. Then, try to imagine the ultimate Days of Our Lives hero belting out into song on a musical theater stage. We bet you can’t and that just shows you what actor Peter Reckell can do.
Music Man
In the August 22 issue of Soap Opera Digest, Reckell describes himself as a “song and dance man.” And, while it’s been 15 years since he’s exercised those vocal cords, Reckell is once again ready to take to the stage performing in the same show that got him his professional start.
It’s been 35 years since the actor debuted in the musical sensation, The Fantastiks, and now Reckell is headed to New York for a three-week engagement this fall. When Reckell found his original script from the show, his past started flooding back.
Back to the Beginning
“It’s kind of like going back to where I started and I feel kind and good,” Reckell told Digest. “At first I was scared, but just two days ago, I was singing through the music and I finally was like, ‘Oh okay. I am going to be able to do this.'”
The actor was pleased to learn how many DAYS fans already have tickets for the show and loves that they can finally see him playing someone other than Bo Brady, the role he left behind last year. While he made a brief return as Bo’s spirit this summer, Reckell can’t see him returning to the role again–at least for now.
Family Man
He describes his brief appearance last fall as a means for Hope (Kristian Alfonso) to move on, but he’s enjoying family life way too much to enter back into the daily soap grind again.
“I can’t miss any more of my daughter’s life,” Reckell told Digest. “She’s just a joy and I can’t get enough of her.”
