Surprise Show Ties for Top Spot in Coveted Soap Opera Ratings Demo
Days of our Lives got an early holiday gift! The soap opera ratings for the week of December 14-18 are in and the NBC daytime drama tied for the top spot in a key demographic!
According to the latest numbers, DAYS tied with The Young and the Restless for first place (among soaps) in the coveted Women 18-49 demographic. (That’s the one advertisers find most desirable.) DAYS and YR each earned a .37; General Hospital wasn’t far behind with a .36 and The Bold and Beautiful received .33.
In overall households, YR became took the top spot with a 2.13; BB was second with 1.85; GH was third with 1.56, and DAYS was fourth with 1.24. Each ratings point equals 1.210 million viewers so, YR had 2.6 million viewers, BB had 2.24 million viewers, GH had 1.89 million viewers, and DAYS had 1.5 million viewers.
Days of our Lives
What stories were driving fans to their screens last week? On DAYS, viewers learned that Charlie (Mike Manning) was not only Ava’s (Tamara Braun) son but also the man who attacked Allie (Lindsay Arnold) over in England and he’s the father of her son! Fan favorites Tony (Thaao Penghlis) and Anna (Leann Hunley) came back to Salem. Jennifer (Cady McClain) nearly forgave Jack (Matthew Ashford) for his fling with Kate (Lauren Koslow) while she was in a coma.
The Young and the Restless
On YR, Billy (Jason Thompson) was cleared of the attempted murder of Chance (Donny Boaz) thanks to some ace detective work by his business partner and love interest Lily (Christel Khalil). Theo (Tyler Johnson) left Genoa City to run his late grandmother Dina’s (Marla Adams) business overseas. Nate’s (Sean Dominic) future as a surgeon appeared bleak thanks to his fight with Devon (Bryton James).
General Hospital
General Hospital served up big drama as Sonny (Maurice Benard) had what appears to be his final confrontation with Julian (William deVry); the two men went off a bridge after a shootout at a bus depot with Jason (Steve Burton) and one of Cyrus’s (Jeff Kober) henchmen. Speaking of Cyrus, we learned that both he and Martin (Michael E. Knight) are the long lost half-brothers of Laura (Genie Francis)!
Also, Michael (Chad Duell) sucker-punched Chase (Josh Swickard) due to lying to him so that Michael could win custody of his son Wiley (Erik and Steven Olson). Curtis (Donnell Turner) was hurt that Jordan (Briana Nicole Henry) lied about Taggert (RĂ©al Andrews) being alive.
The Bold and the Beautiful
On BB, Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) convinced Liam (Scott Clifton) not to share with Hope (Annika Noelle) that they’d had a one-night stand after Liam erroneously believed that Hope was kissing Thomas (Matthew Atkinson). Speaking of Thomas, he survived an operation to help treat his recent mental illness.
Rating the Replacement: Is Cady McClain’s Jennifer Working on DAYS?
Cady McClain stepping into Melissa Reeves’ shoes as Jennifer Horton Deveraux on Days of our Lives, a role she debuted back in 1985, could have been daunting for many an actress.
Cady McClain As Jennifer
Fortunately, the soap found someone who could handle the assignment with ease: daytime veteran, Cady McClain.
Emergency Recast
After Reeves opted not to commute from Tennessee to DAYS’ California
studios due to the on-going pandemic, fans were understandably
concerned. Could anyone, would anyone ever be able to embody the
Jennifer they knew and loved off and on for over three decades?
Then the soap announced that they’d secured her replacement, McClain. Having previously appeared on a trio of soaps, and winning Daytime Emmy Awards for her work on two of them – namely, as All My Children’s Dixie and As the World Turns’ Rosanna, McClain had an impressive resume. Plus, there would be no intimidation factor for the actress. She is a refined daytime pro.
Fitting the Bill
It
turns out DAYS has struck gold with the recast. From day one, Cady
McClain strongly grabbed hold of the role. She never tried to imitate
Reeves’ Jennifer. She simply connected with the words on the page and
made them her own.
In the process, her version of the character is different in some ways. It’s a tad quieter and self-contained. But, at the core, she’s grasped the essence of Jen; a do-gooder, who believes in doing what’s right and expects the same back in return.
Making Connections
Helping the process along has been McClain’s instant connection with her TV kids, Marci Miller (Abigail) and Casey Moss
(JJ). From the moment they shared their first scene together, they were
family. And while she lacks the years of acting shorthand that Reeves
shared with Matthew Ashford (Jack),
McClain is slowly building her own rapport and relationship with her
onscreen husband, not to mention the rest of the DAYS cast.
Days of our Lives Spoilers: Steve Works To Clear Tripp’s Name
Days of our Lives spoilers for Monday, December 28, 2020, reveal Steve and John teaming up, Tripp feeling Kate’s wrath, and Claire putting Charlie in an awkward position.
Days of our Lives Spoilers Highlights
It is back to best buddy status for Steve (Stephen Nichols) and John (Drake Hogestyn) and not a moment too soon. Ava (Tamara Braun) is missing and things are not adding up with the accusations against Tripp (Lucas Adams). They decide to team up and get to the bottom of everything.
Does this mean John believes Steve’s theory that Tripp is innocent? Let’s hope so. The more people coming to Tripp’s defense the better. Of course, believing he is innocent and proving it are two very different things.
Is Lucas On Team Tripp?
Meanwhile, Lucas (Bryan Dattilo) updates Marlena (Deidre Hall) and Allie (Lindsay Arnold) about his showdown with Tripp. He yelled, he screamed, and Tripp still denied the whole thing. Will Lucas senes something is not as it seems? Will he be the first on Team Allie to realize Tripp may not be lying after all?
Kate Blasts Tripp
Tripp’s day does not get much better. No sooner does he deal with Lucas’s fiery temper than he faces Kate (Lauren Koslow). The furious granny takes no prisoners when she lays into Tripp. The only saving grace is Will (Chandler Massey) is there to reel her in before she goes way, way too far.
Charlie Feels The Heat
Meanwhile, Claire (Isabel Durant) puts Charlie (Mike Manning) in a tough spot when she shows up at his house. Talk about bad timing! He has his mother locked away and has to cover his tracks and make sure Ava stays quiet. Charlie tightens the gag and all but threatens to end his mama’s life if she makes a sound.
Days of our Lives Spoilers: A Salem New Year’s Eve To Remember
The Days of our Lives spoilers for December 28, 2020-January 1, 2021, tease yet another festive shindig devolving into an upsetting to-do.
Days of our Lives Spoilers Highlights
The DiMera family plays host to a New Year’s Eve celebration that promises to be one that nobody will ever forget. Gwen (Emily O’Brien) steps up her scheme to sabotage Abigail (Marci Miller) and Chad’s (Billy Flynn) marriage. She manages to convince the latter that his wife has planned a romantic rendezvous with his brother.
In his despair, Chad turns to drinking…and to Gwen. But will he actually fall for her line of bull and do something that he will live to regret? Not if Anna (Leann Hunley) has anything to say about it!
She’s had Gwen’s number from day one, and she confides her suspicions in Abigail. The women unite in a search of Gwen’s sleeping quarters and unearth some rather incriminating evidence, but will they be able to track down Chad in time?
Concurrently, Kate (Lauren Koslow) and Jake’s (Brandon Barash) love affair becomes public knowledge. First, Jake spills the beans to Abigail, and then Kate tells Jennifer (Cady McClain). However, there’s trouble in paradise as spoilers say that the couple has a falling out!
“Black Patch” Is On The Case
Despite their difference of opinion and previous tiff, John (Drake Hogestyn) and Steve (Stephen Nichols) decide to join forces and suss out the identity of Allie’s (Lindsay Arnold) rapist once and for all. John’s certain that they’ll further incriminate Tripp (Lucas Adams), but Steve is sure that the existence of a heretofore unknown sibling will explain everything. Happy hunting boys!
DAYS Odds and Ends
In other Salem news, Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) makes another attempt to get the goods on Philip (Jay Kenneth Johnson), but spoilers reveal that it’s Chloe (Nadia Bjorlin) who discovers her ex’s secret!
Meanwhile, Will (Chandler Massey) and Sonny (Freddie Smith) manage to ring in the New Year together via a web chat, and Lucas (Bryan Dattilo) makes a confession to Allie (Lindsay Arnold) and Marlena (Deidre Hall).

Young & Restless spoilers for Thursday December 24:
When Jack receives a surprise guest on Christmas Eve, will it be the spirits of one or both of his late parents that pay him a visit, or perhaps a lady friend looking to share a hot toddy in front of the fireplace with Genoa City’s most eligible bachelor? The latter would be a gift indeed considering the former playboy’s been single and ready to mingle for far too long.
It was a difficult year for Victoria, who split from Billy (again!), landed in a depression after being stabbed, and got caught up in the war between Adam and their dad, so it’s no surprise when she struggles to get into the holiday spirit.

Soap Hub Performer Of The Week For Days of our Lives: Lindsay Arnold
As the daughter of Sami Brady and Lucas Horton on Days of our Lives, Allie has a lot of impulsiveness running through her gene pool. This week, that was kicked up a notch, as she learned from her father a bit more about what makes her mother tick — and realized that being her mother’s daughter may actually be instructive. By doing so, Lindsay Arnold grabbed that baton and ran with it.
Lindsay Arnold — Performer of the Week
Arnold has had a sweet naivete about her since coming to Salem but viewers quickly learned all was not as it seemed — Allie had actually experienced the trauma of being raped and was left pregnant. This week, she learned that is something she has in common with her mother, Sami (Alison Sweeney), as Lucas (Bryan Dattilo) revealed that piece of his ex’s past.
Lindsay Arnold was thrown in the deep end, having to absorb this foundation-shattering piece of information about the woman she’s had trouble dealing with most of her life. With just her reaction to the news, we could see Allie reevaluating everything she ever knew about Sami, with a better understanding of who her mother has turned out to be being the result.
Unfortunately, Lucas also revealed what Sami did about it — namely her grabbing a gun and doing her part to make sure her rapist would never be able to commit that act again. So what did Allie do? She grabbed Grandma Kate’s (Lauren Koslow) gun — way to go, keeping that gun safe from the grandkids, Kate — and went to take on the man she’s accused of the same crime — Tripp (Lucas Adams).
This wasn’t a scared Allie — she was filled with the confidence of being the badass her mother was in confronting her attacker. Tripp was rightly worried that he wouldn’t be able to talk her down from her new mission — to make him pay like her mother’s attacker had paid. Lucky for him, his dead mother decided to return to the land of the living in that very moment.
Days of Our Lives Star Deidre Hall Unveils Brand-New Holiday Cards
Fans of Days of our Lives icon Deidre Hall always look forward to this time of year because every December, the actress divulges her new collection of holiday cards.
Deidre Hall: In The Holiday Spirit
Hall took to her Instagram for this year’s unveiling of her Westbrook Collection, which includes cards inspired by photos that she saw or found online and immediately fell in love with.
“Thanks for joining us for unboxing the holiday cards,” the actress wrote. “I’m thrilled to share them with all of you.”
In an accompanying video, Hall unwrapped the box of cards. “I’m really proud of this collection and I think you’ll enjoy it,” Hall said.
She then started laughing because she saw the boxes that needed to be put together before the holiday cards could be sent, and they needed to be folded several times, which “is going to take some work,” she noted.
In another Instagram video, Andrea Hall, Deidre’s twin sister, displayed a couple of cards titled “Over the River” and “Here Comes Santa Claus.”
“The Christmas cards make a perfect gift to friends and family and other people who watch Days of our Lives,” Andrea Hall said — and also signed for the deaf community.
Hall will be a guest on the Kelly Clarkson Show this Friday, Dec. 11, where she will give fans a look at the cards. In other news, Hall was happy to report that both her kids were home for the holidays and she’s been enjoying that time tremendously. And she’s going to use her mom power to make both her kids help her with these boxes!
Turning to a more serious note, Hall talked about how it’s not lost on her that nearly 250,000 people will have an empty place at the table this year because of the horrific COVID pandemic.
“It’s beyond tragic and unthinkable, and if you’re lucky enough to have your family safe and healthy, I’m hoping you’ll stay that way,” she said. “It’s not easy, but it’s what we’re doing. By keeping yourself safe, you’re keeping everyone else safe. So, follow the rules, wear a mask, social distance, wash your hands, be respectful, and don’t gather in crowds.”
She added if everyone takes these measures, we can all celebrate together in 2021. The holiday cards can be purchased at deidrehall.com/shop/westbrook-card-set/.
Days of Our Lives Alum Jen Lilley To Star In 2021 Hallmark Movie
Move over Candace Cameron Bure and Alison Sweeney. The Hallmark Channel recently revealed its “New Year, New Movies” programming event, and among the five all-new features is one staring Days of Our Lives alum Jen Lilley (ex-Theresa Donovan), one of Hallmark’s hardest working ladies.
Jen Lilley: New Year Hallmark Movie
Lilley is set to appear in Snow-kissed, described by Hallmark as the story of a “travel-averse journalist” who “chases her dream assignment where she unwilling finds herself mentoring a handsome B&B owner who wants to be a tour guide.”
The flick, which also stars Chris McNally (a Canadian born actor most known for his work on the Hallmark Channel original series When Calls the Heart), is scheduled to air on Saturday, January 30, at 9:00 PM.
Snow-kissed will mark Lilley’s seventh appearance in a film produced by the Hallmark Channel. Her most recent contribution was USS Christmas, released as a part of the channel’s annual “Countdown to Christmas” event.
In that project, which concerned the exploits of a small-town reporter embarking on a Holiday Cruise, Lilley appeared opposite Trevor Donovan, a fellow Days of Our Lives graduate.
The movies Taking a Shot at Love, A New Year’s Resolution, Two for the Win, and Love in the Alps, will round out Hallmark’s January slate.
Though she’s been a busy bee in the intervening years, Lilley is still fondly remembered by the daytime community for her work on both DAYS and General Hospital. In the latter, she was a substitute for an ailing Kirsten Storms who plays fashionista Maxie Jones.
