Olivia Rose Keegan, who won a Daytime Emmy for playing Claire Brady on Days of our Lives, left last August after five years in Salem because she booked a new role on the second season of the Disney+ series, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
Olivia Rose Keegan Previews New Role
The popular show returned last Friday and tonight, the second episode of the show airs, and the young star is featured prominently in the episode.
Keegan plays Lily, a new girl in school who seems destined to throw a wrench into the school’s musical theatre production of Beauty and the Beast. With Nini (Olivia Rodrigo), the star of the last school production, off in Denver studying at a musical conservatory, the top roles are up for grabs, and Lily is ready to claim a starring role. The actress talked to ET online to preview what’s ahead for her character this season.
“I really love, love Lily,” she said. “I’ve played a lot of roles that seem to have this evil nuance about them. And I’m like, ‘Maybe it’s time to look inward and see what kind of vibe I’m giving out into the universe that leads me to these roles.’”
That would certainly be true of firestarter Claire when she was playing the role. Of course, like all the characters on the Disney+ show—be it Ricky, E.J. or Nina or just about anyone—there’s more to Lily than meets the eye.
“No character is one-dimensional,” Keegan said. “Every character goes into the actual humanity and the realness of every character. It’s been really fun to do that with Lily too. I’m excited for people to see all the twists and turns that Lily takes you on because it’s not just a surface-level mean girl.”
And just as she showed many times with Claire, Keegan certainly has the chops for a lead role, as she performs an incredible rendition of the song “Belle” for Miss Jenn during Lily’s tryout. Will she land the part? Check it out tonight, Wildcats!
