Eric Braeden has made no secret of how unhappy he was with decisions made by Mal Young when he was the executive producer and head writer of The Young and the Restless, but now Braeden reveals what Young had planned for the legendary character.
On question about why we no longer see Victor’s office took on a serious tone when the actor answered.
“Well, let me be very honest with you,” Braeden leaned into the camera to say. “There was an attempt by the former executive producer/head writer to diminish the role of Victor Newman.”
He then took on a much more serious tone.
“I’ll say very clearly and very succinctly. He attempted to diminish him. To bring the character down. I’ll never forgive him for that.”
Then, Braeden remembered he doesn’t have to deal with that anymore.
“But he’s gone,” he smiled. Then he waved, looked directly at the camera and said, “Bye-Bye”
Braden has been shouting from the social media rooftops how thrilled he is with the new Y&R regime change and now we know why.
Braeden’s Victor has been a vital part of the Genoa City scene since 1980 and it’s hard to imagine the character taking a smaller role on the canvas… or even no role at all.
Whenever rumors of Braeden leaving Y&R pop up, the actor quickly debunks them as his loyalty to the soap and his iconic character is apparent.
But when he sees something he feels is wrong, he has no problem speaking his mind. So when Eric Braeden “talks,” we listen, because Y&R doesn’t even have to be your soap to know who this larger-than-life actor is.
