DAYS has always benefited from the presence of a slightly kooky, garishly dressed, and interestingly accented female character – think Calliope Jones Bradford, Susan Banks, and even Bonnie Lockhart – and the humorously named Calista Lockhart, played by actress Cady Huffman, is but the most recent addition to this pantheon, and the recipient of Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week award.
Cady Huffman – Performer of the Week
Calista blew into town with one heck of an agenda – recoup the million dollars that Bonnie (Judi Evans) absconded with decades earlier – and Huffman quickly proved herself quite adept at camping up a scene, while keeping it just this side of parody; not a simple feat.
After putting the fear of God into Bonnie, Calista took great pleasure in meeting her groom-to-be, Justin Kiriakis (Wally Kurth) – but she did not like to hear from him that Bonnie never mentions having a sister-in-law.
Bonnie made excuses for Calista’s presence; Calista finagled a glass (or two) of champagne out of Justin, and then the two women hilariously sparred over Calista’s notion that Bonnie gave Justin’s first wife a little push into the great hereafter.
After the argument settles, Calista made her position of things very clear: “It’s just a SHAME that you won’t be marrying Justin, or anyone else for that matter, until you pay me back that money you owe me.” And if Bonnie doesn’t come through, Calista promises to make sure that she’ll face justice for killing her husband.
A Proper Lady
But don’t think that Calista is unkind. The minute she overhears EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) and Xander Kiriakis (Paul Telfer) arguing over the million dollars in the latter’s possession, she calls Bonnie and lets her know just where she can find the necessary funds.
Come the next morning, Calista lets herself into Bonnie and Justin’s bedroom – in both outlandish dream sequences had by Bonnie, and in the flesh – delights in making Bonnie squirm, and then heads off to the manse’s parlor in order to indulge in some breakfast mimosas.
After seeing Justin off, she got a new delight by the appearance of a dapper eye-patch sporting, “big boy.”
We can’t wait to see what man-hungry Calista will do now that Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) is within pouncing distance, and we’re equally thrilled to see what other (acting) tricks the uber-talented Cady Huffman has up her sleeve.
