Some love her, some hate her, but nobody living in Salem is indifferent to Gabi Hernandez DiMera – and that’s thanks to the always stellar efforts of actress Camila Banus – the recipient of Soap Hub’s Performer of the week award.
Camila Banus – Performer of the Week
With a new day dawning, Gabi’s first order of business was to eke out an offer of shelter for herself and lover Jake DiMera (Brandon Barash) from her brother Rafe (Galen Gering) – AFTER she’d already moved all their things inside, of course.
After succeeding in her goal, it was off to the mansion that she owned in order to pick up some left behind postage; and while she was there, she decided to give boarder EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) a what for.
“Screw you…what kind of person are you? What kind of person are you? I welcome you into my house, my house and then you organize a coup to get Jake out of the company! …I hold you personally responsible for what happened to Jake, and I will personally make sure that you pay for it!”
Low and behold, an opportunity to do just that fell into Gabi and Jake’s lap. Thanks to a snafu with the mail, they came into possession of a letter penned by one Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) detailing an affair between EJ’s wife, Sami (Alison Sweeney) and her ex-husband Lucas Horton (Bryan Dattilo).
But while Jake delighted in the prospect of blowing his brother’s marriage to smithereens, Gabi dithered. She wasn’t so sure she wanted to involve the grandparents of her daughter – and Sami had once helped her dispose of what they assumed was Nick Fallon’s dead body.
In the end, both parties decided do to nothing with the potent missive – which wound up in Sami’s hands – and their relationship was all the better for it.
As these recapped scenes have hopefully attested, Camila Banus is sorely deft at skirting the line between a hot-headed harpy and helpful heroine – here’s hoping we have many more occasions to witness her work her magic.
