When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.
General Hospital: A Critic’s Week In Review
This week’s General Hospital was a tough watch, and not just because I came to the startling conclusion that I just plain don’t like the vast majority of this soap’s characters.
First and foremost, I was equal parts tickled and ticked off by Bobbie Spencer (Jacklyn Zeman).
She most definitely spoke for the audience when she told Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) that a) she doesn’t think that she and Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) are actually done with one another and b) she doesn’t think that Carly should actually go back to Sonny whom she still despises, and I loved her for that.
However, where the H-E-double hockey sticks does this woman get off judging Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros)? With Bobbie’s track record, that whole setup just rang false and was hypocrisy at its best/worst.
And not for nothing, but Bobbie’s past as a hooker was used against her by Tiffany Donely (Sharon Wyatt) when the women were embroiled in a legal battle over custody of baby Lucas. Would she really be teeheeing over the expose published about Nina in the lead-up to her custody suit?
Oh, and speaking of glasshouses and all that, I just want to remind Bobbie and Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) about a man named Tony Jones (Brad Maule). Enough said, right General Hospital super fans?
Moving on…please, please, please tell me that Dan and Chris/Chris and Dan haven’t gone and copied one of daytime’s most derided storylines. I barely got through DAYS’ ‘Nighttime Hope’ fiasco, and now it seems like I’m going to have to grin and bear ‘Latenight Liz.’ What has Rebecca Herbst done to deserve this? Fix this mess, and fix it now!
And while we’re on the subject of fixing things, can we all agree that the Marshall (Robert Gossett) story just isn’t working and needs to be scuttled?
Also, please, please, please stop with all the teasing and put Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) and Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard) together. The dance is getting tiring. These are two people I actually really, really enjoy separately and I just know that I’ll love them once they’re a bona fide couple.
There’s not going to be an easy fix where General Hospital’s Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) is concerned, and to be honest, I wouldn’t mind if the character took a long walk off one of the many short piers that surround Port Charles’s answer to Crime Alley.
Further GH Musings
* Of all the random, dangling plot points to revisit, which one has surprised you the most? Curtis and Jordan never filed divorce papers or Trina Robinson’s (Tabyana Ali) paternity puzzler?
* Other characters causing me consternation:
Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) – what’s it going to take for him to get a clue?
Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) – what is he playing at?
TJ Ashford (Tajh Bellow) – see what happens when you insinuate yourself
in grown folks’ business? Someone gets stabbed. Are you happy now?
Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson) – piling lies on top of lies is not the way to go.
* Violet Finn (Jophielle Love) for the win! Can she please help resolve Trina Robinson’s dilemma next?
