The nominations for the 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards have been announced. The industry has reacted with congratulatory messages and thoughts on who got snubbed!
The Bold and the Beautiful Daytime Emmy Reaction
“Brad Bell [B&B executive producer/head writer] had called me and said he had wonderful news,” Naomi Matsuda (Li Finnegan) tells Soap Hub of her nomination in the category of Outstanding Guest Performance in a Daytime Drama Series. To earn her nod, the actress submitted the scenes in which her husband Jack (Ted King, also nominated in the same category) informed her that he was their ‘adopted’ son Finn’s (Tanner Novlan) biological father — courtesy of his affair with Sheila (Kimberlin Brown).
“Ted and Tanner are such wonderful actors,” praises Matsuda, who established the Finnegan family in a very short amount of time. “It was so easy for all of us to spend time in rehearsal and off-set where we would talk about our characters. They were very helpful. Ted’s a veteran, and I just followed his lead. I believe that’s why it was well-received.
“I felt it was such an honor,” Matsuda says of her character Li being named after late B&B co-creator Lee Phillip Bell. “I wanted to do the best I can to honor her and the show.”
Aaron D. Spears, who plays B&B’s Justin Barber, received his first nod in the category of Supporting Actor. His reel includes Justin keeping Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson) captive, the revelation of Justin spinning around in Bill’s (Don Diamont) chair, and how he confronts his former boss. “Justin explained how he felt about Bill and why he did what he did,” Spears says. “I got a chance to really get into why it is and what it is and then, we see where Justin feels he’s really going to pull off [his plan].”
General Hospital Daytime Emmy Reaction
“I’d like to take a moment to congratulate everyone at #GH on 17 well-earned #DaytimeEmmys nominations,” Frank Valentini, executive producer, GH, tweeted. “Our crew works tirelessly to bring Port Charles to life and we wouldn’t be here without the support of our fans. Thank you for watching! @GeneralHospital @DaytimeEmmys #GH59.”
“Incredibly honored to be nominated alongside such talented performers,” wrote Nicholas Alexander Chavez, nominated for his role as Spencer Cassadine on GH in the category of Outstanding Younger Performer in a Drama Series. “So grateful to my family, friends, fans and all of my collaborators at @GeneralHospital I love you all dearly,” Chavez tweeted. “Congratulations to @LiptonWilliam [William Lipton, Cameron, GH], @SydneyMikayla [Sydney Mikayla, ex-Trina, GH], @AlyviaAlynLind [Alyvia Alyn Lind, ex-Faith, Y&R], and @lindsayarnoldd [Lindsay Arnold, Allie, DAYS].”
Mikayla tweeted out a video, which can be seen below, upon finding out she’d received her second Daytime Emmy nomination. As you can hear in her voice, she’s a bit under the weather but that didn’t dampen the gratitude she feels. “So grateful!! #GH #TeamTrina #Emmynom,” Mikayla tweeted.
Two-time Daytime Emmy-winner Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis, GH) tweeted out her gratitude at receiving another nomination. “Lovely to get another pat on the back for doing what I still love doing after 36 yrs,” the actress posted on social media. “Thinking about other women with tenure, who are still producing capably and hope that their value is still seen as well. #grateful #Emmys.”
DAYS and DAYS: Beyond Salem Daytime Emmy Reaction
DAYS head writer Ron Carlivati received two nominations — one for writing DAYS and another for writing peacock’s five-episode series Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem. Still, the scribe lamented that a few DAYS actors in the possession storyline — specifically, Deidre Hall (Marlena Evans) and Bill Hayes (Doug Williams) — didn’t receive nods. “I understand that not everyone can be nominated, but I want to acknowledge the extraordinary work of our entire cast and crew at @nbcdays, especially @DeidreHall and @DaysHayes — they totally committed to this story and deserve to be recognized for it! #DaytimeEmmys #Days #DOOL.”
DAYS actor Paul Telfer (Xander), a previous Daytime Emmy nominee, tweeted out kudos to his fellow actors on their nominations. “Huge congrats to the whole @nbcdays squad for all the noms!” Telfer posted. “And especially to the wonderful @Stacy_Haiduk [Stacy Haiduk, Kristen/Susan], @MarciMiller [Marci Miller, Abigail], and @ericmartsolf [Eric Martsolf, Brady]!!!” And in a follow-up tweet, he added, “And @Ari_Zucker & @JreynoldsJames!!! So many noms I can’t keep up!”
Y&R Daytime Emmy Reaction
Fan-favorite Jordi Vilasuso may have left his role of Rey Rosales on The Young and the Restless, but he says he’s walking away with one heck of a parting gift. “Honored to be nominated with this great group of actors!!” Vilasuso posted on Instagram. “Now this feels like a proper send off for Rey!!! All my love and congrats to the nominees @youngandrestlesscbs and our other daytime shows!! Btw, the @mrjerryoc lap spank was just the reaction I was looking for.” (Check out Vilasuso’s post below to see The Talk co-host Jerry O’Connell’s reaction to Vilasuso’s nod).

Ptosha Storey was over the moon to receive her first Daytime Emmy nomination for her role as Naya Benedict on Y&R in the category of Outstanding Guest Performance in a Daytime Drama Series. “Oh Lord, I Thank You!,” Storey posted on Instagram. “Thank you to the [National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences] for my 2022 Daytime EMMY Nomination — Outstanding Guest Performer in a Daytime Series.
