A Critic's Review of General Hospital: Awkward Couplings & A Bad Set

When it comes to General Hospital, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the GH week that was.

General Hospital: A Critic’s Week In Review

My goodness. What’s with all the couple blocking on General Hospital? Vanna fans have been salivating for an official date between the two, and what they were “gifted” was a convo about Jennifer Smith (Holly Gagnier) and whether or not Anna (Finola Hughes) thought she was guilty of the crimes leveled against her. FYI, she doesn’t, and now Anna’s looking at Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) sideways because she knows that there’s something he’s not telling her.

A vast majority of viewers, myself included, have been rooting for a Brook Lynn Quartermaine (Amanda Setton) and Harrison Chase (Josh Swickard) hookup since about the third time her hand made contact with his face, but time and time again there’s been something or someone impeding any romantic progress. The latest spoiler(s)? Despicable Linc Brown (Dan Buran) and Chase’s own inability to let an insult of Brook Lynn go unpunished.

There’s a something or a someone standing in the way of Elizabeth Webber’s (Rebecca Herbst) happily ever after with Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton), be it a ghost, sleeping pill-induced psychosis, or a figure/buried memory from Liz’s shrouded in mystery past.

Portia Robinson (Brook Kerr) is one big truth bomb away from losing out on a future with Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner).

And there’s even a shadowy figure poised to make trouble for Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) and Austin Gatlin-Holt (Roger Howarth), though that one I may let slide because I’m still not feeling “it” between those two.

Speaking of just not being into certain pairings or, to be more precise, pairings seemingly in the making, I’m hoping that General Hospital cuts its losses where Cody Bell (Josh Kelly) and Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) are concerned. And for the love of all that’s holy, please, please, please halt any and all plans to pair Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) and Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright). Friday’s episode was painful enough, thank you very much.

Further GH Musings

* Clearly General Hospital’s design team/set builders blew the budget when they designed the Q family’s swanky stable, because The Highsider was nothing more than the struck Tan-o set dusted off and hammered back together. Would it have killed them to differentiate between the two even in the slightest?

* How much slower can Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) take their relationship?

* Note to self: Do NOT get on Selina Wu’s (Lydia Look) bad side.
