A Critic’s Review Of The Young and the Restless: Yawn, Con & Evil Spawn

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: A Critic’s Week In Review

So, aside from Chance Chancellor’s (Conner Floyd) about-face, did anything really happen this week on The Young and the Restless? Let’s see…

Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lanier) became even more suspicious of her mother’s motives. Yawn.

Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) helped prove Nate Hastings’s (Sean Dominic) point that Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) purposefully finds fault with ideas that he originates and instead of internalizing that revelation and resigning himself to do better, Devon took Lily to task and then went off to confront Nate. If the point of this story beat was to solidify my dislike of Devon, then mission accomplished. If the point was to try and make this plot interesting, big miss.

Thanks to Adam Newman’s (Mark Grossman) inability to act like a decent human being, he and Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) are now even further apart than they were before, and I now care very little whether or not the two are ever reunited. If anything, I’d much rather see Sally and Nicholas Newman (Joshua Morrow) coupled up.

What else…what else…what else happened on The Young and the Restless…oh yea, there were, I think two scenes featuring Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) pondering the possibility that she’ll never sing again. Maybe if this storyline was actually explored at length rather than being consigned to an available slot once a week there would be some real poignancy.

I think my favorite scene – and “favorite” is pushing it – was Noah Newman (Rory Gibson) blithely excepting that Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) is the kind of man who hears of someone’s death – and probably has some kind of involvement in it – and then go about his day as if nothing is wrong.

Further Y&R Musings

* You know, it’s a funny thing, but when you really think about it, Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford), The Young and the Restless’ perennial rivals, are really far more similar than they are different. And there be the real reason they hate each other so. Jack schmack.
