Days of our Lives Moments in History: The Wedding of Larry and ‘Hope’

They say every bride is beautiful on her wedding day, but that statement may have proved to be untrue at the Days of our Lives wedding between District Attorney Larry Welch and a young Hope Williams back in May of 1984. Fans who saw Ben Weston steal Ciara Brady away from her own wedding may find the following familiar — but her parents did it first.

Days of our Lives Moment To Remember

Bo Brady (Peter Reckell) came to stop the wedding and pleaded with his Fancy Face not to go through with it as she was preparing to walk down the aisle, but Hope (Kristian Alfonso) asked him to leave, telling him, “I’m not your woman anymore!

“I’m not going to let you hurt me again,” she tearfully cried as she pushed Bo away. But he wasn’t going to take “no” for an answer and professed his love. Alice Horton (Frances Reid) found the two and knew that Bo was right, and helped pull off one of the best fake-outs in wedding history.

Although it looked like Hope was going through with the wedding, the person wearing her veil at the church’s chapel was none other than Bo’s friend, private investigator Howie Hoffstedder (Stanley Brock).

This surprising reveal came after Larry (Andrew Masset) told his “bride” that he was the luckiest man in the world to have someone like “her” marrying him and he wanted the whole world to know “how much he loves her” and wants to shout it from the rooftops.

“You are the most beautiful, the most wonderful, the most gorgeous bride any man on this earth could ever wish for,” he told her, and then lifted her veil to see Howie in the wig.

“Talk about gorgeous doll face, you have a puss that just won’t quit,” the PI answered back, sending shock throughout the church, and getting punched by Larry in the process. “Does this mean we’re not engaged,” Howie joked.

The show then cuts to Bo and Hope racing on his motorcycle to the tune of Bonnie Tyler’s “I Need a Hero” — creating one of the most memorable moments in not only Days of our Lives history but in all of soaps. The two eventually profess their love. Meanwhile, Howie would have to find love somewhere else.
