Rating the Replacement: How Conner Floyd Rates As Chance on Y&R

Young and the Restless newcomer Conner Floyd debuted on November 29, 2021, as the soap’s newest Chance Chancellor. In his first month, Floyd managed to catch our eye with his take on the Chancellor heir.

Conner Floyd as Chance Chancellor

Y&R has seen multiple versions of Chance, and in just one short month, Floyd managed to make his mark on the role. Given Chance’s daredevil ways, viewers have come to expect high-stakes drama when he’s onscreen. Where the previous Chance got to drop in from the ceiling in true spy fashion and romance the gal, this Chance has been saddled with a depressing situation of returning to the life he’s missed out on for a year.

While the situation is less than Chance-like, Floyd took the material writers gave him and made it his own. Certainly, the daytime newcomer has it going on in the looks department. Then, after his first few Young and the Restless appearances, we were pleased to see that he could also act, unraveling the layers to his complicated character. Plus, he and his onscreen wife, Melissa Ordway (Abby Newman-Abbott Chancellor) seem to have some chemistry building.

While the story is something of a sad one in the midst of the miracle of Chance being alive, we’ve appreciated the pained nuance Floyd’s brought out in the character. After all, it’d be impossible for Chance to survive the safehouse blast that killed everyone inside without having some difficulty with survivor’s guilt and PTSD.

Floyd manages to layer Chance’s guilt at missing the crucial early parts of Dominic’s life and leaving his wife, Abby home in Genoa City to handle everything on her own. We also love how Floyd shows Chance loves Dominic, but still seems to feel a bit of a disconnect where his son is concerned.

In all, we appreciate the careful, emotional take that Conner Floyd has brought to such a complicated legacy character on The Young and the Restless. We can’t wait to see how things go with Floyd’s portrayal of Chance in the new year.
