“It’s with a very heavy and sad heart that I post this,” Boaz wrote on social media. “One of the most important people in my life, my step-dad, Pastor Jerry Skelton, passed away yesterday morning. I’ve known this man since I was 10 years old.

“I created so many headaches for this man growing up, we didn’t always see eye to eye, but he is one of the most honorable men I’ve even known,” Boaz added. “And Honor to him to which Honor is due. I’ve never known someone to be as giving and selfless as this man. A pastor for 57 years, he has literally touched thousands of lives, including my own. No one prayed for me more and he molded me into the man I am today.

Boaz’s Step-Dad Appeared in a Movie

“You will be missed and I hope someday I’m at least half the dad that you didn’t have to be,” Boaz concluded. Skelton became a pastor at the age of 24. He attended Christ for the Nations in Dallas, Texas, and received honorary doctorates from other seminaries. Skelton and his choir sang in an evangelistic service at Madison Square Garden in New York City for 22,000 attendees.

Skelton and his choir took part in the 1997 film The Apostle, which starred Robert Duvall, Farrah Fawcett, and Billy Bob Thornton. The pastor wed Boaz’s mother Tami McGuire Boaz in 1993. Soap Hub sends sincere condolences to Donny Boaz and Pastor Skelton’s family at this difficult time.
