The author’s opinions are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.
When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.
The Young and the Restless: A Critic’s Week In Review
There has been much ado made in the soap press about The Young and the Restless remembering that its purpose is to shock and entertain — I won’t be joining that chorus, as I don’t find it appropriate or warranted to praise a writing team for finally doing what it was hired to do in the first place.
And to be quite frank, given everything that’s come before it, I’m sure that Abby Many Last Names (Melissa Ordway) and Devon Hamilton’s (Bryton James) affair — which, let’s be honest with one another, came out of nowhere — will wind up being apropos of nothing.
All that said, I was thrilled about Jess Walton’s return as Jill Abbott — how nice to see her interacting with her fellow thespians in person rather than through a computer screen. Her rat-a-tat report with Kate Linder’s Esther Valentine is pure comfort, and her chemistry with play-son Jason Thompson is equal to none, even if the scene enacted by Jill and Billy Abbott is as repetitive as they come.
Further Y&R Musings
* Best Exchange:
Victor: Who gives a damn about Jack Abbott, for Heaven’s sake? He’s always had a penchant for troubled women.
Nikki: Hey, you’re not including me in that group, are you?
Victor: Uh oh….no, how dare you suggest that.
* I hope that when the time comes Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) lets Devon’s smug, hypocritical behind have it with both barrels.
* Is it just me, or did Zuleyka Silver — Young and the Restless’ Audra Charles — actually bring a little life back into Rory Gibson?
* If all there going to do is argue when they’re onscreen together, I’d rather not see Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey Bregman) and Michael Baldwin (Christian Le Blanc) at all. At least then I can imagine the two luxuriating in domestic bliss.
* Not that I’m team ‘Witches of Genoa City’, but it’s awfully hard to care one iota for Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) when she’s setting herself up for failure.
