Why Diane Jenkins Is Just What The Young and the Restless Needs

Long may she reign!

Diane Jenkins on The Young and the Restless

We know, we know…Nikki Newman, Phyllis Summers, and Ashley Abbott just cannot stomach the fact that Diane Jenkins is walking around The Young and the Restless as if she were a human being who had made some mistakes, instead of like the pariah who everyone should see and instantly hit over the head with a folding chair. We, on the other hand, are loving the return of Susan Walters as the woman of the hour.

Diane Jenkins: Now You See Me

First and foremost, Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), Phyllis (Michelle Stafford), and Ashley’s (Eileen Davidson) completely out-of-proportion, psychotic level of obsession with Diane have given this trio of vets something to do after months of listening to their children whine, or, in Ashley’s case, being banished to another continent. While we don’t love the lines they’re being given, we do love seeing our historical leading ladies on the regular.

And Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) actually almost has a quasi-story again. He who spent the past year playing doting Grandpa and basically giving his son and daughter-in-law everything they wanted so they wouldn’t take Precious Harrison Locke (Kellen Enriquez) away again. Nice to see Jack using his brain again, if not his libido.

Stirring the Young and the Restless Pot

But what we really love about Diane’s presence is that she is igniting so many stories. She’s given Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) something to do beyond singing love songs to Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lanier).

She’s given Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John) someone to show his dark side too while he makes nice with his estranged son and claims to have no interest in taking over his company. And she’s reminded the world that yes, women can actually drive story rather than just react, the way all of the other ones on the canvas seem to be doing these days. Long live Diane Jenkins!
