A Critic’s Review of Days of our Lives: A Little Research Goes A Long Way

When it comes to Days of our Lives, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of the Days of our Lives week that was.

Days of our Lives: A Critic’s Week In Review

It was SO gratifying to watch Abigail Deveraux DiMera (Marci Miller) come to the conclusion that the woman claiming to be Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) was anyone but. She truly proved herself to be the smartest character on Days of our Lives…which isn’t really saying much.

I mean, how many times has Xander Cook (Paul Telfer), in nearly the same breath, made mention of Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) magical masks and then said that Sarah just wasn’t acting like herself. Um, hello! Two and two clearly make IMPOSTER!

But getting back to Abigail. While her brain blast was a treat, it hinged on a fallacy. All the pieces fell into place for the intrepid journalist once Kate Roberts (Lauren Koslow) made mention of the fact that Kristen was planning to spirit her out of town in steamer trunk – supposedly the same steamer trunk that “Sarah” was seen dragging towards the airport…but a little research on the part of the Days of our Lives scriptwriters would have revealed that Kristen actually transported an unconscious Kate in a large garment bag.

Do better DAYS. Do better!

And speaking of getting things right…Friday’s episode, and recent spoilers articles, have utterly convinced me that Days of our Lives is about to sacrifice the history, and integrity of Kevin Spirtas’ character.

If there was one thing that was true about Craig Wesley, it’s that he loved his wife. No, not just loved. He worshiped that woman. There wasn’t a thing about Nancy Wesley (Patrika Darbo) that Craig didn’t adore. From the top of her head to the soles of her feet, she was perfect in his eyes. And those two had a very active sex life.

Now, it seems we’re gearing up for a “Craig is sleeping with a man” storyline that smacks of GOT YA-style plotting. At best, it will be revealed that Craig has discovered latent bisexual urges and he’s stepping out on his missus to explore them, at worst, it will be revealed that Craig was “always” gay and merely putting on a front with Nancy. Either way, the “twist” will completely negate everything that has come before, and that’s a real shame.

Further DAYS Musings

* Can we all agree that in light of his poor decision-making during his own trial EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) should never, ever return to practicing law? Did he really think that Melinda Trask (Tina Huang) wouldn’t use the opportunity provided to her to bring up his plethora of misdeeds?

* Surely Kayla Brady Johnson (Mary Beth Evans) is going to have recited more than a few Hail Marys after lying to a Mother Superior, harboring lustful thoughts about “Father Nichols” (Stephen Nichols), and possible shooting Kristen. Also, do you think that DAYS was purposefully channeling Black Narcissus by having Kristen ditch her nun’s habit for a red dress, or was it a coincidence?

* Soooooo, Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) is 99.9% sure that Ava Vitali (Tamara Braun) is responsible for the false accusations filed against him, and yet he has no problem continuing to sleep with her? There’s something very, very wrong with that.

* What are we to make of this bit of JoeDevil (Carson Boatman) dialogue: “I always thought [Gabi] was hot. And soon she’ll be mine. Doing the Devil’s handiwork has so many fringe benefits.”

Is Days of our Lives insinuating that Johnny is fully conscious of and excited by the misdeeds he’s committing?
