DAYS loves to present its actors with unconventional challenges. Just ask Linsey Godfrey – the latest recipient of Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week honors – who was tasked with playing not her usual alter-ego, but two different characters impersonating her with the aide a high-tech face mask. Yes, it was as thrilling – and ridiculous – as it sounds.
Linsey Godfrey – Performer of the Week
To be clear, Godfrey actually did appear as Sarah Horton in two brief scenes…but it was a Sarah dreamed up by guilt plagued Gwen Rizczech (Emily O’Brien); a Sarah with an attitude and a potty mouth. It’s not every day that Godfrey gets to greet a fellow cast member with a line like, “You know what I’m doing here, bitch!”
The next time that Godfrey was onscreen, she was meant to be gangstress Ava Vitali in the aforementioned Sarah mask…and it was obvious that she’d done her homework. This Sarah looked and sounded like Godfrey, but she had Tamara Braun’s swagger and (surely) patented crossed arms/back leaned stance down pat.
Then it was time to reckon how Gwen, and therefore O’Brien, would interpret Sarah. Godfrey perfectly nailed the trepidation and stomach-churning unease that Gwen surely felt at masquerading as her love rival, and she also nailed some of the subtle ticks employed by O’Brien.
Whether it be fantasy Sarah Horton, Ava’s Sarah, or Gwen’s Sarah, there was never any question as to who Godfrey was playing. In summary, it was an acting triumph for the much-beloved Days of our Lives alum.
Honorable Mention: Paul Telfer
It wasn’t the reunion long hoped for, but fans must no doubt be thrilled at seeing Telfer and Godfrey reunited – even for a brief moment. In the aftermath of that hellish, soul-crushing cross, Xander Cook was a man whose emotions were laid bare, and Telfer proved himself the consummate performer.
