Chancellor-Winters is just one big (not so) happy family on The Young and the Restless, so why is Billy Abbott feeling so left out? He says he’s not family, but that really isn’t true.
A Young and the Restless Family Affair
Billy’s (Jason Thompson) mom, Jill Foster Abbott Atkinson (Jess Walton), owns the company, and Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) is merely the CEO she chose to run it for her. Sure, he’s not working at Jabot with Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman), but it’s quite bizarre that Billy doesn’t feel like he’s family enough to fit into the company his own mother owns.
For months now, Billy has moped around because he’s not related to Lily, Devon Hamilton (Bryton James), and Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic). It’s not like Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) and Imani Benedict (Leigh-Ann Rose) are their family, either, even though they’re sisters.
Ultimately, this Young and the Restless storyline feels like a stretch. It’s far more believable that Billy just doesn’t feel comfortable in a corporate role and enjoys being creative with podcasts instead. However, chalking his attitude up to not being part of the Chancellor-Winters family doesn’t make much sense, considering.
While Billy has grown and changed a lot, it seems like he’s still managing to find reasons to be unhappy with his life. Perhaps Jill should come back and take a more visible advisory role in Chancellor-Winters, and then Billy would remember he’s certainly part of the family who owns the company Lily is running.
