On The Young and the Restless, Sharon Rosales is Rey Rosales’s widow. However, for some reason, the soap and many of the characters are giving Chelsea Lawson similar treatment to Rey’s actual widow. Why is that?
Young and the Restless Pretends Rey Had Two Wives
While the residents of Genoa City certainly talk about Rey (Jordi Vilasuso) with Sharon (Sharon Case), the way they treat Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) doesn’t really make sense. Sure, we know that Chelsea and Rey had a friendship despite the fact that she nearly killed him trying to frame Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) for murder. However, that doesn’t really explain why she’s getting such differential treatment.
For instance, Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) told Chelsea about wrapping up Rey’s cases even before he let Sharon know. Some of that was likely circumstance, but the way Chelsea reacted was really over the top. And he’s not the only person who has acted as if Chelsea and Rey had something other than a burgeoning friendship.
We realize it’s partly an attempt to make Chelsea relevant and get her into storylines these days since she’s at loose ends. However, it really doesn’t add up for many viewers watching the soap treating Chelsea similarly to Sharon. In fact, Sharon sometimes gets even less consideration as Rey’s widow than Chelsea does as his friend. It’s truly bizarre.
Rey loved Sharon, and their marriage ended when he died. He didn’t cheat on her with Chelsea even though Chelsea had dreams about Rey. We just can’t quite figure out how it’s justified to act like their friendship was so meaningful after Rey’s death. What do you think?
