Where Has All The Sanity Gone On The Young and the Restless?

Just what exactly is going on with the women of The Young and the Restless? Why are they losing their minds at an unprecedented rate? Is it something in the water? Are they being bombarded with gamma rays as part of a government experiment? Is Mercury in perennial retrograde for them? Is there always a full moon? What the heck is happening in Genoa City?

Young and the Restless: Exhibit A

Abby Newman Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) asked Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) how she was… and got a diatribe in return. Chelsea went on and on, growing louder and louder, about how awful her life was, how terrible it was that she lost her job, and how she doesn’t have a man in her life. Oh, and she yelled about how she’s on edge, and so tense, and no one, but no one has ever had to suffer through those two things the way that Chelsea is suffering through them now, and why does no one understand that she isn’t like other people and needs a lot more care and concern because she is just a delicate little flower, damn it, does no one appreciate how special she is?

Y&R: Exhibit B

First, Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) couldn’t stop ranting about how her daughter moving out of town led to Phyllis suffering in a way no other mother has ever had to suffer and why does no one understand that she isn’t like other people and needs a lot more care and concern because she is just a delicate little flower, damn it, does no one appreciate how special she is? When Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lenier) returned, Phyllis moved on to feeling that way about Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters), to the point where any mention of Diane’s name leads to Phyllis literally shrieking, bugging out her eyes, and waving her arms around like she is being attacked by a swarm of bees.

Young and the Restless: Exhibit C… and D… and E

Meanwhile, Summer herself can’t get over how that evil Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) forced Summer to take her dream job in Italy. Chloe Mitchell Fisher (Elizabeth Hendrickson) can’t get over how that dumb Sally continues to be civil to that evil Adam Newman (Mark Grossman). And, Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) is so distraught about Diane’s reappearance that she has joined forces with the once despised Phyllis!

The women of YR are collectively losing their minds. And we would really like to know why.
