What Does General Hospital Have Against Elizabeth Webber Baldwin?

Longtime General Hospital viewers were thrilled when Elizabeth Webber finally found happiness with a brain-tumorless Franco Baldwin, who proved to be the attentive stepfather her three boys really needed. But then the show killed him off, promising it would give Liz lots of story. That never materialized…and it just got worse from there.

General Hospital Makes Liz Invisible

Since Franco’s (Roger Howarth) death, Liz (Rebecca Herbst) has been shown truly mourning her husband in about two scenes. Instead, she has been shown wrongly accusing Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) of killing her husband, covering up Hamilton Finn’s (Michael Easton) attempt at killing Franco’s killer, Peter August (Wes Ramsey), though he had his own reasons for wanting the murderer dead, which led to her flirtation with Finn because nothing says romance like killing someone together. Huh?!?

She had a brief moment of seemingly getting her deadbeat dad, Jeff Webber, back in her life but that has seemingly gone nowhere fast. Her half-sister Hayden Barnes has been mentioned time and time again but her involvement in that has been next to nothing, which also doesn’t make sense.

Why all the stops and starts and shoving her aside? Actress Herbst has a huge fan following after her almost 25 years in Port Charles. The latest slap in the face was Liz finding out about Jason’s death, the father to one of her children and someone she has a long history with, off-screen. Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) gets every moment of her grief shown, but Liz? Forgetaboutit.

Finally, on Monday’s episode, Liz looked ready to avenge her husband’s death as she carried a scalpel into Peter’s hospital room. While Liz fans everywhere would love to see her exact revenge (she could claim temporary insanity!) for the deaths of her kids’ stepfather and one’s biological father, they know better than to expect that to happen. Because as Liz fans have learned, their favorite gal always gets the storyline shaft.
