Perhaps we can cut Sonny Corinthos some slack for being out of practice with negotiating a mob deal with a fellow head of one of the Five Families, but what went down on Thursday’s episode of General Hospital was a bit shocking.
General Hospital: Give Next To Nothing
He came to Selina Wu (Lydia Look) with a request — please kill Peter August (Wes Ramsey) for me since I find him to be a problem and too much heat would be on me if the loser were to be found dead. Okay, maybe not those exact words but pretty darn close.
He lives in a world where things are negotiated and nothing is done for free. That said, Ms. Wu had already done the Corinthos organization a pretty big solid when she saved the lives of Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) by tipping off Jason about the attempt to execute them both by two fellow family heads. Jason, Sonny, and Carly all knew they owed her. Big time.
Yet all the woman asked was to allow her nephew Brad Cooper (Parry Shen) to be paroled. Could Sonny do that? No, little Michael Corinthos Quartermaine’s (Chad Duell) feelings may be hurt if he told him what to do for the good of the family so all Sonny would promise was that he would make sure he didn’t pull extra strings to keep Brad in prison. He felt that was a fair deal.
In a world where respect is everything, Sonny seems to be forgetting that. So on the heels of that basic insult, he now wanted Selina to take out Peter. In return she would get — the exact same thing he offered as a thank you for saving Carly and Jason. And he threw in another threat to kill Brad if he approached Michael or Wiley for good measure. Um…that is not a good negotiation. In fact, it’s a good bet it will cost him — and he’ll deserve it.
Why on earth would he think that measly offer would be enough for her to put her business interests in jeopardy to take out a man who means nothing to her and save Sonny’s skin — when he won’t lift a finger to help her kin? Did time in Nixon Falls as Mike really dull his survival instincts? Chances are this will come back to bite him and his family — and all of Port Charles. And he’ll deserve it.
