The Young and the Restless viewers know that Ashland Locke didn’t earn the nickname the Locke Ness Monster for nothing. Perhaps he isn’t more ruthless than Victor Newman, but he has one thing going for him that The Mustache doesn’t — Ashland has nothing left to lose. For his performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R is presented to Ashland’s portrayer, Robert Newman.
Robert Newman — Y&R Performer of the Week
This week, Ashland truly lost his last shred of humanity when he reached out to Harrison Locke (Kellen Enriquez), only to be arrested for violating his restraining order. Newman portrayed his loss of all hope perfectly. From the despair and quiet rage he had in prison to the complete disregard for anything Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) had to offer, the actor hit all the right notes using excellent body language and facial expressions.
However, Newman’s shining moment this week came when he was outside Victoria Newman’s (Amelia Heinle) house as a storm brewed. She pulled back the curtains, and Ashland was there. Robert Newman stood there — unmoving and creepy — with no words, and it was enough to make our skin prickle.
After Victoria made the poor choice to let Ashland in, Newman showed how unstable his character had become by switching between a calm and measured tone of voice to yelling and lunging at Victoria. His crowding out his ex-wife’s personal space made us feel fearful along with Victoria, showcasing how great Newman’s performance was. Bravo on a great job!
