The Young and the Restless viewers know that Sally Spectra will do whatever it takes to succeed both personally and professionally. She’s cutthroat in business, but she nearly gave it all up for love this week. For her moving performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R is presented to Sally’s portrayer, Courtney Hope.
Courtney Hope — Y&R Performer of the Week
Hope truly made us feel Sally’s utter destruction at Adam Newman’s (Mark Grossman) betrayal. He broke up with her, and when she overheard him tell Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) the real reason, we nearly jumped for joy when she barged right out there to read him for filth.
We appreciated the actress’s firm, decisive body language, and powerful line delivery. It was so much more than mere dialogue that gave the convincing performance. Even her hair movements and facial expressions told the story. Then, when Adam doubled down on everything, we literally saw Sally deflate, which Courtney Hope portrayed perfectly.
Later, when she went into Adam’s hotel room, we loved the subtle nuances that Hope gave as she remembered Sally’s past growing up. She brought a real depth giving her character a haunted look in her eyes as she remembered what it was like growing up without having a place to fit in or a person who loved her most. Hope hit those notes perfectly with her body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice. We truly felt Sally’s pain through the strong performance.
Then, finally, as she listened to Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and later Chloe Mitchell Fisher (Elizabeth Hendrickson), we loved seeing Sally’s spine straighten both literally and figuratively as Courtney Hope showed us her on-screen alter ego gathering her wits about her to fight another day. Bravo on a stellar performance. Congratulations!
