Y&R Star Robert Newman Bids Farewell To Ashland, Talks What’s Next

The Young and the Restless star Robert Newman gave his fans a bit of a surprise with a farewell message recently.

Robert Newman Bids Farewell to Y&R and Ashland

The veteran soap star took to YouTube to reveal his last scenes as Genoa City villain Ashland Locke had aired on The Young and the Restless. “Just to clarify, the scenes you saw the other day — Ashland dying at the hands of Nick [Newman, Joshua Morrow] were, in fact, my last scenes on the show. The end of my contract.”

The actor went on to note that he’d shot the fateful moments for Ashland about five weeks ago. “Since then, I have come home 3,000 miles away from L.A., home to my family. To my lovely wife, Britt [Helfer]. To my son and daughter-in-law…and to my fantastic two young grandsons…and to my daughter…” Newman sounded quite excited to enjoy his life as a grandpa to the little tikes.

He had some lovely words for Y&R, though. “Thank you so much for letting me be part of the legacy of this great show,” Newman said. He revealed that he enjoyed his time portraying Ashland, who was so different from the character Joshua Lewis on Guiding Light who many soap fans knew him as.

The Future Looks Bright

Robert Newman revealed that he would soon be on stage at the Barn Theatre in Augusta, Michigan. “I will be playing the role of Dennis Dupree in Rock of Ages, the musical, August 9th through the 21st,” he said. Those who go to watch him on stage in person are in for a special treat if they stay for the bar show afterward because he said he’d likely sing a song and would be available for photos and signatures.
