Soap Hub Performer Of The Week For GH: Nicholas Alexander Chavez

Rage, disgust, passion, and finally, honesty. That is what we saw from Spencer Cassadine this week as he confronted Esme Prince, first with a precious (yet false) gift and then when his complete demeanor changed on a dime when he let Esme know he had her just where he wanted her — or so he thought. For finally confronting feelings that Spencer has been harboring for a year and ending his kind and forgiving facade, Nicholas Alexander Chavez is this week’s General Hospital Soap Hub Performer of the Week.

Performer of the Week: Nicholas Alexander Chavez

Chavez had already expertly play put part of this scene before when Spencer presented BFF Cameron Webber (William Lipton) with his plan to trap Esme (Avery Kristen Pohl) by first telling Cam that his Uncle Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaugnessy) managed to find Esme’s real mom. Cameron believed him and that’s how he believed his lies would work on Esme and they almost did. But Esme is infinitely more manipulative than even a teenage Cassadine, so it wasn’t hard for her to figure out something was up.

Spencer then confirmed her suspicions when he coldly told Esme he would give her the name of her real mother (which he did not have) in exchange for her confessing she framed Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) and leaving town. At that point, Spencer’s bluff was over, but he didn’t care.

You could see the relief on Spencer’s face as Chavez let every emotion his character had been feeling for months finally break through. The disgust he felt for Esme was apparent as he went over every step of her devious plan to tape Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) and Cameron’s first time having sex and release it onto the internet while setting up Trina to take the fall.

Too bad Esme wasn’t about to break in front of Spencer. She knew she had been found out but she held her own, which only made Spencer’s rage and frustration with her deepen.

Nicholas Alexander Chavez showed us exactly why he won a Daytime Emmy with his first nomination for his first big acting job on General Hospital. He embodies his character and makes us feel what Spencer is feeling. When Spencer can finally break down and confess his true feelings to Trina after over a year, we know that moment will be everything fans have been waiting for.
