The Bold and the Beautiful star Sean Kanan attended the recent San Diego Comic Convention to promote his role in the film Colonials. The movie tells the story of a space colonist who crash lands on Earth to save a Resistance stuck in the dark ages from an advanced Moon enforcer — and the galaxy from human extinction! Soap Hub chatted with the fan favorite about the movie and his trip to the biggest comic con out there.
Sean Kanan Hits San Diego Comic Con for Colonials
“Thanks to everyone at the @colonialsfilm Panel,” Kanan posted on Instagram. “Can’t wait for this epic sci-fi film to come out. @joebland09 @gregkriek @allieeayers @annarusso.secrets @mikeferguson71 #sdcc #sandiegocomiccon #cobrakai #karatekid #boldandbeautiful.”
Soap Hub: Who do you play in Colonials?
Sean Kanan: My character is Zeke, who has been marooned on
earth for over 125 years. He’s got a friend named ‘Morgan,’ which I call
the intergalactic version of ‘Wilson’ — Tom Hanks’s
volleyball in the film Castaway. Zeke is this Obi-Wan Kenobi-type
character. Michele, my wife, is a producer on the film. The lead, Silas,
is played by Greg Kriek. He’s a South African actor who’s doing a film
right now with Anthony Hopkins.
Soap Hub: Where did you film it?
Sean Kanan: My stuff was shot in Joshua Tree. The green screen
and special effects are all amazing. The director, Joe Bland, did an
amazing job. I was amazed at what he was able to put together. I think
what’s great about the Sci-Fi genre is that you can find a mass audience
for it in a lot of different countries. This film has the potential to
find a pretty significant audience.
Soap Hub: Deacon Sharpe has to be known internationally, so this can only help the film with distribution.
Sean Kanan: I was in a Target the other day, and this guy said
to me, ‘You’re Deacon. I grew up in Jordan [in the Middle East], and we
watch B&B all the time over there.’
Soap Hub: San Diego Comic Con returned to an in-person event
after a two-year hiatus due to COVID. Had you ever been there before,
and what was it like?
Sean Kanan: I went with my stepson Peter who works for Dark
Burn as a senior editor of video games. His perception was much more
industry-oriented, so it was fascinating to see it through his eyes. I
got recognized more for my role as Mike Barnes [Karate Kid III] than
anything else I’d done, which was great. We walked around and saw a
whole bunch of stuff. It was cool. I’m blessed to have different fan
bases. The soap opera fans support me tremendously, as do the Cobra
Kai/Karate Kid fans.
Soap Hub: In addition to more of Deacon, what’s next for you?
Sean Kanan: I’m headed to Connecticut for another comic con.
Then, I’ll be in San Antonio, then I’m back at B&B taping. I’m
really enjoying working with Krista Allen [Dr. Taylor Hayes]. And then, I’ll be headed back to Texas for another comic con. Things are busy.
There’s no official release date for Colonials yet (we hear maybe later this year). In the meantime, check out the trailer for the film here. The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS.
