Bold and the Beautiful’s Tanner Novlan Shares a Family Update

Tanner Novlan’s family life is missing the mama drama Sheila brings to Finn’s world.

B&B Tanner Novlan

Tanner Novlan showed up to pay tribute to his TV biological mother when actress Kimberlin Brown celebrated 30 years as Sheila Carter on The Bold and the Beautiful. Soap Hub caught up with Novlan and chatted with him about his real-life and reel-life dynamics.

Tanner Novlan Talks Real-Life

As Novlan’s followers know, the actor and his wife, Kayla Ewell (ex-Caitlin Ramirez), welcomed their second child, a son, Jones Douglas, on June 6th. The newborn was premature and had to spend a short bit of time in the hospital before going home to live with his parents and big sister, Poppy Marie. “[Jones] is doing wonderful,” Tanner Novlan says. “He’s healthy, getting bigger and bigger. We’re starting to see his personality come out.

“My house is busy but not quite as busy as Jacqueline’s is,” Novlan notes, referring to his TV wife, Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy Forrester Finnegan). “She has three [children]. We have two.” In between takes, the two can always chat about what it’s like to raise children. “We can both lean on each other when we’re exhausted,” the actor says.

The Doctor Is In

Finn believes that Sheila is presumed dead, having supposedly been mauled to death by a bear. In reality, Sheila had her toe cut off so that authorities would believe she’s perished. Say, might Finn be able to re-attach his mom’s toe someday? “I never thought of that,” responds Novlan. “That’d be pretty cool [if he could]. I don’t know how happy he’d be with his mother [if he knew she was alive]. Shooting him and trying to take Steffy from him?”

Just what kind of doctor is he anyway? “He’s an ER [emergency room] doctor,” notes Novlan, admitting that, like most soap opera physicians, he’s probably a multi-purpose M.D. “He’s very universal in this role! He’ll deliver a baby if he needs to. He’ll help with Thomas’s [Forrester, Matthew Atkinson] hematoma [when called upon].”

Tanner Novlan Talks Sheila and Reunions

Novlan says he was unaware of just how significant a character Sheila was and is to B&B, but his mother, a longtime viewer, filled her son in on the naughty nurse’s backstory. “As soon as the shows [I was in] started to air, I realized the impact this character has,” the actor says.

Viewers will have to stay tuned to find out exactly when (if?) Finn will discover Sheila is alive. “There’s some interesting things coming up,” Tanner Novlan teases. “Brad [Bell, executive producer/head writer] always comes up with very interesting ways. Just when I think a story’s going one way, it goes another.”
