On December 10, the first anniversary of his sister Penny Spiegel’s death, Days of our Lives star Stephen Nichols, who has played Steve Johnson in Salem for over 35 years ago, paid tribute to her in a touching way that will move you.
Stephen Nichols Remembers
“One year ago today my dear sister passed away,” Nichols began his post on Instagram Friday evening, which included a beautiful video of the brother-sister duo through the years, set to the haunting piano-only version of Bookends by Simon and Garfunkel.
“I have found more acceptance, but still can’t believe she’s gone,” he continued. “In the year since Penny’s passing, I’ve been able to reflect, on a deeper level, on just how much she meant to me and how she impacted my life. In fact, Penny saved my life when we were small children.
“I can only say, don’t wait. Do this now. Cherish every moment with your loved ones before they are gone,” he advised with wisdom discovered through grief. “I miss her terribly and because I’m always thinking of her, she is with me every day, teaching me. I am taking the best of who she was and learning to be a better person.” He ended his post simply by saying, “Penny, you are in my heart always and forever. Thank you. Love, Steve.”
At the time of her passing last year, Nichols said in a post at the time, “As I witnessed the grace she showed during her illness…she became my hero. You’re in my heart always & forever. My dear, sweet sister, Penny.” Soap Hub sends our thoughts to Stephen Nichols.
